Black pepper chicken is one of my most favorite Chinese recipe. It is a delicious and easy stir-fry recipe with only a few ingredients: black pepper, chicken, onion and bell pepper. Not only because it’s so much delicious, but also because it is enhanced with a healthy touch of colorful veggies that makes it perfect as a one-pot meal.

Easy homemade restaurant style Chinese chicken with a peppery brown sauce is much better than take-out. This recipe is similar to one of the recipes I’ve shared on the blog in the past, Almond Chicken and can also be eaten with Garlic Fried Rice. This time, we’re adding a few more veggies, cutting back on the cornstarch and the oil a bit, and gobbling it up like it’s our job.

This black pepper chicken fits right into that food plan of the people who are trying to eat healthy meals on the condition that they will not seperate the vegetables.

Most of the ingredients I’ve used in my black pepper chicken are easy to find, and you don’t have to make any special trips to the Asian mart for ingredients nor to tire yourself to find one.

If we talk about the veggies in this recipe, we’ve got onions, peppers, and celery. Use what you have or what you like. Maybe try a different colored pepper? I love green bell peppers in this, and I’ll usually use greens if I’ve got them on hand.
Black pepper chicken is more of a clean the fridge recipe, so don’t be afraid to swap out the veggies for things you’ve got in the fridge that need to be used up! and it is also good for making those children eat vegetables who don’t eat them in usual.

Also, if you’re into the meal prep scene – this is a great recipe to put on the weekly rotation. I like to scoop out 1/2 cup of basmati rice, add 1/4 of the prepared black pepper chicken and veggies on top, a handful of almonds in one of the compartments, and a medley of berries in the other. Unlike a lot of meal prep recipes, this one tastes better as it sits.

If you are a big fan of pepper recipes, you’ll love this chicken. It’s a good Chinese pepper dish to enjoy on special occasions but I guess that’s expected with its name being black pepper chicken. Still, if you’re expecting some pepper, raise the amount a little higher and that’s how peppery this is. The chicken is thinly sliced and wrapped with caramelized onions and peppers. You can either add the bell peppers in the beginning so they are properly cooked down, or at the end, so they retain their crisp texture, flavor and vibrant color. It all depends on personal preference and taste.

Now you could go and kick your week off strong with this Black Pepper Chicken recipe!
